Treating a drug or alcohol addiction is neither a one-and-done nor one-size-fits-all plan. A recovery strategy ideal for one individual might be a poor fit for another potential client, because of personality fit, pace, or simple program incompatibility. Treatment modalities effective for one client, to treat one substance use habit, might be ineffective in other applications. Length of substance use, habit severity, home life and other factors can prove heavy influences when it comes to determining optimal addiction treatment programs best suited for one client over another.
Individuality of treatment is a vital concept to keep in mind when considering a recovery plan or treatment center, either for yourself or for a family member, friend or peer. For the most effective addiction treatment, there’s nothing more important than conducting research and finding the program or therapist designed and trained to set you or your loved one on the path to recovery.
Why Addiction Treatment?
Many emotions rise to the surface when making the decision to enter drug or alcohol addiction treatment. It can be intimidating, possibly humiliating; you might experience reservations and doubts.
Each year, approximately 22 million Americans experience recovery from addiction, whether it be opioid, alcohol or drug abuse. So why addiction treatment? Here’s the simple answer: it’s worked for a number of people for a number of years. The key, however, is finding the right treatment path which works for you, the one best-suited to return you to an active lifestyle and a full day’s worth of enjoyable activities.
Which treatments are most effective?
When selecting a treatment, it’s important to research treatments specific to recovery type. For example, treatment modalities optimized to help clients address opioid abuse will naturally differ from alcohol addiction programs and therapy. Talking with a therapist or treatment center will be extremely helpful when determining your right path forward.
Our PHP, IOP and OP programs at Real Recovery enable many individuals to take definitive steps forward toward recovery and away from self-destructive behaviors.
- PHP – A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is most effective for those who have recently used substances or experienced active addiction symptoms. It involves 30 hours a week – over the course of five days – where individuals take a step back from everyday life in the full pursuit of a better, addiction-free life through treatment. PHP offers a blend of therapy types, from yoga to equine-assisted therapy to recreational therapy, to help refocus the mind, all the while giving applicable guidance on budgeting, employment and home management during recovery. Not only will individuals be supported in their journey, they will also be given tools to cope with day-to-day difficulties, not to mention a stable environment which effectively reduces the risk of relapse.
- IOP – IOP, or Intensive Outpatient Treatment, includes 10 hours a week of experiential activities that break up the heavy regularity of talking one-on-one with a counselor. IOP targets substance use habits, but also touches on areas of difficulty and helps clients approach and embrace the new challenges of living a substance-free life. Sessions rotate through various themes, including Mindfulness, Life Skills and Intimacy & Relationship Dynamics, to provide a sure track towards recovery, all the while keeping clients engaged.
- OP – Our Outpatient Program offers support for those who no longer need intensive treatment, but are ready to slowly transition back into the commitments of everyday life. Typically, clients attend OP treatment groups twice a week, offering support and encouragement during this phase of recovery.
